I've been taking vocal lessons at this place in my town for almost two years now. Probably like twice a year, we do a recital and then sometimes we go to a local place and perform for the public. When I first started taking vocal lessons, my coach, Emily, said to me "Okay so I know you just started taking lessons here but we have a recital coming up and I was wondering if you wanted to do it?" And she also told me we only had a few more lessons before the recital (I take them once a week). Now, I accepted because I knew I needed to get over my stage fright someday. That day, waiting to be called onto stage, I was more nervous than I had ever been. But I told myself "Do not let these nerves get the best of you. Overpower them." And that is exactly what I did. I sang Catch Me by Demi Lovato and I had a great time! And from that point on, the nerves I had felt before I got called on stage turned into adrenaline. Instead of getting shaky and quite, I get really excited!
If your nerves issue is about speaking in front of your class, I have some advice for you. I used to be one of those people who absolutely hated talking in front of the class, much less giving the teacher an answer at my desk. But I got over that. If your issue is with confronting someone, or even talking to a boy you like, don't sweat it!! Getting nervous while talking to someone is silly. Whether be a boy or a new friend, be your self. This past weekend, I had to ask a guy to DBS Winter Formal because it was girls choice. I was so so nervous because I don't really talk to guys that much. But after it was over, I laughed at myself because I don't know why I was so nervous! I've compiled a list of things you can do to calm your nerves which fit in any situation:
- BE YOURSELF(:
- Breath in through your nose and out through your mouth (thank you Rock Of Ages)
- Stay hydrated
- Listen to inspirational rock like Eye of the Tiger or Don't Stop Believing
- Dance!
- Do as Florence + The Machine and "Shake It Out"
- Drink an energy drink (if you're into that)
- Read inspirational quotes about what the situation is
- Sing at the top of your lungs
- Laugh until your sides hurt
- Jump around
- Squeeze someones hand (or like a stress ball if everyone refuses to let you squeeze their hand)
- Ask yourself "Honestly, what am I nervous about?"
- Listen to The Beatles :-)
- Imagine there is a punching bag in front of you (I do not recommend punching someone or something because I don't think that would end well)
So whatever your situation is, do not let your nerves stop you from doing something. You want to have a conversation with that cute boy? Don't let your nerves stop you or he will be gone. If I had never gotten over my stage fright, I wouldn't be doing what I'm doing with my singing. And if you're nervous because you're scared of what people think of you, forget them! They don't matter!! JUST BE YOU and everything will work out fine! I hope you enjoyed today's Real World Thursday entry and come back tomorrow for Fitness Friday! Have a lovely day!
By the way, I thought that instead of finishing every post with a quote from Demi's book, I would try to add variety in my quotes. I will still post Demi quotes sometimes but I want to post like lyrics, classic movie lines, or jokes or something like that so yeah!
