Fitness Friday: Snacky Snacks

Hello and welcome to another Fitness Friday! Today, I want to talk about everything snacks: healthy alternatives, portion control, when to eat snacks, and all that jazz. Let's start by talking about healthy snack alternatives.

As soon as we get home from a long day of school or work, all we want to do is stuff our face with something sweet or salty like chips. But we should not do this! Finding other options is easy, you just have to know what to look for. One great snack that I have recently discovered is Luna Bars. They are very good very and super delicious. The only kind of tried is the protein bars but they have others. The protein bars a good to eat in the morning if you are running a little late. They area also perfect to eat before that big games against your enemies. Another snack I like to eat is popcorn. This is the most simplest snack ever. All you do is just pop it in the microwave. However, you have to use your brain on this one. If you're trying to be a healthy about popcorn, you probably shouldn't get the box that has extra extra movie theater butter. As good as that may sound, it shouldn't be an everyday snack. A good thing to invest in is an air popcorn machine. If you're like me, you absolutely hate popcorn that doesn't have any butter. Well good news for you, I have a few ides of some things you can put with plain popcorn. One thing you can do is pop plain popcorn and mix it with sea salt. Another idea is to put the popcorn with pretzels or a few m'n'm's! My last snack idea is very simple, raspberries!! I love me some fresh raspberries, especially with a little bit of sugar on top! Yum!!

Now, you can't call a meal a snack. You have to understand that a snack is just a small portion of a food. You can't consider a sandwich and chips a snack. That is basically a meal. Also, you should not eat snacks excessively. ESPECIALLY when you are bored. I find that a lot of people (and I catch myself doing this as well) will get bored and eat something. This is a horrible habit. Food habits can kind of be the worst. A little off my main topic, but another habit I've had to break is eating while watching TV or Netflix. This may seem odd to some but in my nutrition and wellness class we learned that if you start eating your meals or snacks while watching TV, every single time you watch TV you are going to want a snack. I've gotten a lot better at that but my issue was with Netflix. I would eat my meals while watching The Office and pretty soon, I found that every time I watched The Office, I craved something to eat. Which was not good because I watch The Office a lot, not even exaggerating.

So remember that there are healthier options than a bag of chips for a snack. After you come home from school or work, eating a snack that is healthy will make you feel better and it will bring up your mood! Also remember that a snack is simply that. I went to google and searched for the actual definition of snack and it said "a small amount of food eaten between meals." So don't overdue your snack, or it becomes a meal. I hope you enjoyed today's blog and come back tomorrow for Disney World Saturday!! I hope you have a lovely day!!
