UGH I'm so sorry this is late again!! I uploaded this yesterday but when I checked my blog this morning, it showed that I uploaded this on Sunday..? What the heck Blogger? Anyways, so so sorry! Here is Book Talk Wednesday!
I'm sure you all have seen the trailer for this movie and fallen in love. Today, I am going to talk about the book. And before you see the movie, please please read the book. Most likely you will understand what's going on a lot better. This book is so so sooooo good. There is no adjective I could use to do it justice. Now I'm going to give you a summary of the book. And I won't give any major spoilers so if you haven't read the book, you can go ahead and read the summary.
The book is set in a dystopian society where people are split into factions. The factions are: Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), Erudite (the intelligent), and Candor (the honest). Beatrice Prior live with her mother, father, and brother in Abnegation. That is the faction she was born into. People in Abnegation have to be selfless. They wear gray clothes and cover themselves at all times. They give to the factionless (people who decided not to be in a faction and live on the streets). And they are only allowed to look in a mirror one day a year. Beatrice never thought of herself as selfless. She felt like she didn't belong. When you turn 16, you have to do an aptitude test. You go into a room with a test giver and they give you shot that puts you in different simulations. Your reactions to different scenarios tell which faction you would belong best in. Then at the choosing ceremony, you can either choose to stay in your own faction, or leave for another. But if you leave, you can't see your family again. When Beatrice takes her aptitude test, he results were different than normal. It said she fit into like 3 factions. This is called Divergent. The person who give Beatrice the test, Tori, tells her this is very dangerous and she should not tell anyone her results. Then comes choosing ceremony day. When they call your name, you go up to the stage and cut your hand with a knife and drop your blood in the bowl that represents the faction you want to be in. When it is Beatrice's turn, she chooses Dauntless. And the rest of the book is about her going through Dauntless initiation while trying to keep her Divergence a secret.
There are also two other books in this series, Insurgent and Allegiant! If you liked The Hunger Games, you would probably love this book! It is one of my favorites. I hope you enjoyed this book talk and hopefully this inspired you to go out and read Divergent! Thanks for reading and have a lovely day(:
